OPP Detachment Closure Won't Impact Service

The Mayor of Lambton Shores doesn't believe the impending closure of the Forest OPP station will have an impact on community service.

The closure was recently announced in a photo caption on page 11 of the Standard Guide Advocate newspaper.

Bill Weber is confident in the state of policing locally.

"I don't believe the bricks and mortar of the station in Forest is in any way going to change the service that we have in the area or as far as response to situations in Lambton Shores, Plympton-Wyoming, or Warwick," he says.

Mayor Weber says policing costs in the municipality won't change because a contract is already in place.

He says it's not clear where the officers will be relocating to, but some could be transferred to Petrolia or Plympton-Wyoming.

Last week, Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton raised the issue in the Ontario Legislature.
