Two anti-poverty rallies will be held to commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
Thea deGroot is with the Sarnia Lambton Poverty Reduction Network.
They'll meet at noon Friday, October 14 in front of Sarnia City Hall and then again Monday, October 17 at Lambton College.
"Poverty numbers are growing," she says. "It's simply unacceptable in a country as rich as Canada. We'll be handing out paper bags with an apple and card inside, talking about poverty. We want all Canadians who don't live in poverty to start speaking out about the issue."
She says this year the Inn of the Good Shepherd needs an extra 10,000 lbs of food every month as they're now distributing 45,000 lbs of food to 1,800 people monthly, 700 of whom are children.
They're calling for implementation of a national, inclusive, anti-poverty plan.
