The Sarnia Sting's 19th annual Teddy Bear Toss game, in partnership with Lambton Ford, is Sunday at 2pm against the Niagara Ice Dogs at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
Since its inception, the event has generated over 50,000 stuffed animals, divided among local charities.
Arizona Coyotes defenceman and Sting alumnus Anthony DeAngelo scored the clinching goal in 2014.
"I think the year before I scored it was Whitey (Patrick White) against Guelph," says DeAngelo. "He was trying to go back-to-back but I took him out there, it was against the team I ended up getting traded to [the Greyhounds]. I remember that pretty clear, it was a fun day with all the teddy bears coming down."
Former Sting captain Daniel Nikandrov, who now plays for York University, scored the teddy bear toss goal in 2012. He says it's something he'll always remember.
"It's such a great occasion and it's a game that everyone always gets excited for and the community really rallies around," says Nikandrov. "It's definitely something I remember very well, and it's something all of the guys always look forward to as well."
Both DeAngelo and Nikandrov predict Nikita Korostelev will score the teddy bear toss goal this year.
Other previous teddy bear toss goal scorers include Matt Mistele, Reid Boucher, Nick Latta, and Justin DiBennedetto.
