The woman who threatened to shoot a teller while robbing a downtown city bank was sentenced in Sarnia court Friday morning.
Lindsay Rene Smith, 37, has been sentenced to 30 months, or two and a half years, for her part in the February 1 robbery of the CIBC branch at Lochiel and Front streets.
This includes the time she has already served in pre-sentence custody.
According to evidence, Smith entered the bank wearing a hoodie with a skeleton face and demanded cash from a teller, claiming she had a gun. She then fled with the cash in a taxi to a hotel she rented on London Rd.
Sarnia police tracked down Smith at the hotel later in the day, where police say she confessed to the crime.
There is no evidence Smith had a gun, and she claims she had no intention to harm the teller.
During the sentencing, Justice Mark Hornblower says Smith's early admittance was a mitigating factor, but that her actions caused the teller "significant and emotional damage."
Smith was also sentenced to an additional 30 days, to be served concurrently, for breach of probation.
Smith will be jailed at a facility that will provide her with mental health treatment. She has a history of substance abuse and mental health issues.
