Sarnia Speaks To Focus On Resiliency

The eighth edition of the city's popular Sarnia Speaks dialogue goes Wednesday night.

Organizer Danielle Cooper says the topic is resiliency.

"If there's one for people to come to, I think this is the one," says Cooper. "These stories just impact everybody in one way or another."

She says there will be three speakers; Dan Edwards, Emily Ager and Lauren Crighton.

Cooper says the auditorium was packed for the first two events this year.

"It's an indication that these are topics that people want to talk about and I think it really shows how impacted our community is by issues like mental health, mental illness," she says. "Normally, we have people that come and will talk about their direct experience with a mental illness or a topic of some sort that's related to that, but with this one we could actually see how far mental illness itself reaches and how having resiliency is important, not only when fighting a mental illness but in other facets of life."

She says the panel will talk about handling severe mental illness, but also focus on people who've gone through tragic life events and circumstances and came out on top.

Sarnia Speaks is free and open to the public.

It starts at 6:30pm in the Sarnia Library Theatre.
