Sarnia resident Bob Cassetta knows first hand the struggle of undergoing dialysis three times a week. He came up with the idea of a "Rocktober" fundraiser, a day of musical entertainment from 12pm until 8pm at the Dante Club Sunday, October 15. Sarnia-Lambton Kidney Foundation Executive Director Elaine Hayter says they'd like to replace chairs that have been in use since coming over from Essex St. in 2010. "When you're sitting in those chairs three days a week, four hours each time, you want to be fairly comfortable," says Hayter. "These new chairs run about $5,000 each." She'd also like to raise money for a badly needed Vein Finder. "If they're having problems finding those veins to go into, it becomes an issue to put them on dialysis. This machine is like an x-ray machine and determines where the veins are, so it makes it easier to put patients on machines. Right now those needing such a machine must go to London." A Vein Finder has about a $12,000 price tag. There are about 55 people getting treatment in Sarnia now. The $10 entry fee for Sunday's event gets you three slices of pizza. There will be a cash bar and raffles as well.
