Local boaters can rejoice! We should see some movement on the Centennial Park boat ramp next month.
On October 2, Sarnia council approved up to $680,000 in additional spending for Bre-Ex Construction to build the ramp in the water, however, the contractor has been told to find savings and come in at a lower price.
"We are expecting the contractor to mobilize sometime in November, clean up the site and begin construction of the new boat launch in November," says Bryan Prouse, operations manager with the City of Sarnia. "We are waiting for confirmation of the final price from the contractor, as well as the new design, and they will begin construction upon receipt of the new materials."
He says materials are expected to begin arriving sometime in early December and workers will begin driving new piles and have that done prior to the Christmas break.
Council has been told construction and installation is expected to take ten-12 weeks.
Prouse says the goal is to have the new boat ramp operational for the spring salmon derby -- but that of course depends on this winters weather.
Until the new ramp at Sarnia Bay Marina is operational, area boaters are being accommodated at the Bridgeview Marina boat ramp.
