As the cold snap continues, Environment Canada is now warning snowbelt areas to the lee of Lake Huron about the development of snow squalls.
The weather agency issued a snow squall warning early Thursday morning for Watford, Pinery Park and eastern Lambton County, London-Middlesex, Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce.
Lake effect snow is expected to develop before dawn Thursday as winds shift northwesterly, with accumulations of 15 cm (6 inches) in 12 hours likely.
Forecasters expect snow squalls to set up from near Grand Bend and extend inland towards Strathroy and Mount Brydges affecting Hwy. 402, Hwy. 21 and to a lesser extent Hwy. 401.
Quickly accumulating snow, poor visibility, and very cold wind chills nearing -25 C (-13 F) are expected.
Lambton Public Health has a cold weather alert in effect until Saturday.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for all of southern Ontario including Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent. The cold snap will end by Sunday as a southwesterly flow develops.
