Summer Jobs On The Way For Local Students

Close to 400 summer jobs will be created for area students thanks to $1-million in funding from the federal government.

The 2018 Canada Summer Jobs program is open for applications and Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu is encouraging all full-time students to apply.

She says the program ties in well with the recent investment in the community.

"We've got growth in so many areas, but with the NOVA announcement, and the aging population, there are a lot of different needs for students," says Gladu. "I also think there's a lot of tourism and new ideas with the rejuvenation of downtown."

Gladu has seen firsthand how the program has benefited CPET (Chemical Production & Power Engineering Technology) students from Lambton College and those who worked at the Huron House Boys Home.

Canada Summer Jobs provides funding for businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create opportunities for students aged 15-30 who plan to return to school.

Applications are being accepted at www.canada.ca/canada-summer-jobs until February 2.
