One Convicted, Four Others Cleared In Gift Card Fraud

One person has been convicted in connection with a Sarnia fraud investigation, while charges have been withdrawn for four others.

The criminal investigations branch says in November of 2015, 22 gift cards valued at over $16,000 were bought online with stolen and compromised credit cards from Canada, the U.S., Spain and Qatar.

Charges were laid based on video surveillance allegedly showing the accused people picking up the pre-paid gift cards at the mall.

Jeffrey Minzen, 34, has since been convicted of two counts of fraud under $5,000, breach of recognizance and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Sarnia police have confirmed that charges against four others have been withdrawn.
