SIU investigating after passenger was thrown from roof of truck

The province's police watchdog is investigating after a passenger was thrown from the roof of a moving pickup truck as Lambton provincial police attempted to stop the vehicle.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Sunday at 10:30 p.m., officers received a complaint about an erratic driver in Lambton Shores.  The OPP eventually located a blue 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche pick-up truck that was driving dangerously along Army Camp Road while passengers were riding on the vehicle's roof.

When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, it fled the area which resulted in on of the passengers being thrown from the roof of the truck. Police ended the pursuit to provide medical aid to the passenger who had suffered serious injuries.

Due to the injury to the passenger, the OPP has notified the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which is now investigating the incident. The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity of the pickup truck driver is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or 519-222-8477.
