The City of Sarnia continues to battle Mother Nature as it works to repair damage to the Lake Huron shoreline.
Director of Engineering Mike Berkvens said near-record high water levels and north winds continue to tear chunks of soil away, especially at the end of Christina Street, the end of Blackwell Side Road and the area between Telfer Road and Brigden Road.
"We're doing a temporary repair at Rainbow Cove," said Berkvens. "The one on Christina Street., we're working with the consultant engineer to come up with an idea on how to best deal with that problem. One we're doing is an emergency repair while the other one, we're getting a proper engineering report to get a permanent fixture on that."
Berkvens said the city budgeted $1 million in the 2018 budget.
"We do want to coordinate our efforts with the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority to get the opportunity for funding where we can make our dollars go farther, perhaps getting money from the province," he said.
Berkvens said he thinks it might get worse, unfortunately, before it gets better with winter just around the corner when gusty north winds will drive water and ice up against the shoreline.
