Owen Gilhula scored the shootout winner for the Sudbury Wolves as they beat the Sarnia Sting 4-3 Saturday night at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The Sting does gain one point, but are in fourth place with 18 in the OHL West Division standings.
Sarnia got on the board quickly, as Brayden Guy scored his fifth goal of the season at 1:44 of the opening period. Sudbury then scored two before the end of the frame. Cole Candella tied the game for the Wolves 71 seconds later, then Macauley Carson's score later in the period gave Sudbury a 2-1 lead.
The Sting regained control of the game in the second period. Alexandre Hogue scored his first goal of the year on the power play at 15:16. Hugo Leufvenius' power play goal with just two seconds left in the period gave the Sting a 3-2 lead.
Candella struck again with an empty-net goal to tie the game up at 3-3 with 34 seconds remaining in regulation. Sudbury outshot Sarnia 5-3 in the overtime period, and Gilhula's winner came in the third round of the shootout.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen had 33 saves in net for Sudbury. The Sting's Aidan Hughes takes the loss with 23 saves.
After the game Sting second year defenceman Hogue said the team bounced back after trailing by one after the first period. "The second and third we definitely cleaned it up. We talked about it in the room how we should clean it up, dump it in and forecheck their "D". We had a chance to win but it was a great overall team effort."
