Sarnia-Lambton's MP is hinting that a billion dollar investment may be on the horizon at Sarnia's Bio-Industrial Park.
Speaking on CHOK's The Talk Show with Sue Storr Monday morning, Marilyn Gladu said the area's bio-industry sector is building momentum.
"I know we had a bit of a blip with Bio-Amber, but they have sold it to somebody that is going to operate the facility," said Gladu. "Then we have Origin Materials that are just building right now, as well as the comet bio-refinery and Bioindustrial Innovation Canada is hatching a whole bunch of new projects. So, we'll continue to see those, there's about three of them -- that I know of -- about to come forward."
She said those projects are expected to create about 500 full time construction jobs this season.
But, Gladu said the industry could be further boosted -- by as many as 800 jobs -- if a new project proceeds at the Vidal Street South park.
"There's another potential for a billion dollar facility, that has not been announced, but they're working on. So, there's good potential they may come here. I'll wait until the deals are signed and the ink is dry, but it looks very good for Sarnia."
Gladu says the start of the long-planned Oversize Load Corridor Project is also good for the area -- creating about 3,000 good paying jobs.
