Chamber hopes to draw international students to local career

The Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce is hoping to connect international students to a career in the community.

The Chamber is using an online survey to bridge a gap between international students and prospective employers.

President Shirley de Silva said the International Student Retention Project (ISRP) survey will help around 3,000 local businesses find skilled workers.

"This survey will help us identify some of the barriers that may existed around hiring international students," said de Silva. "There are numbers of students looking for employment and there are a number employers looking for talent, so if we can help bridge those two, it would be a really good thing for our community."

de Silva said nearly 1,800 local businesses reported difficulties finding skilled workers.

The online survey goes until January 20. Those who take part will be entered in a draw to win a $100 gift card to Sitara Indian Cuisine.
