The County of Lambton has expressed interest in preserving the old Canatara Cabin.
Manager of Museums, Gallery and Archives Laurie Webb said it would be a nice addition to their collection of historic buildings behind the Lambton Heritage Museum in Grand Bend.
"We do have a series of historic buildings at Lambton Heritage Museum currently," said Webb. "We have an 1850's pioneer home, an 1890's school house, an 1860's church and then we have a blacksmith's shop and slaughter house. So we do have a good collection of historic buildings on site and this is one time period that isn't currently represented."
Webb said talks with the city have been preliminary.
"We reached out initially to the city and have had an initial conversation about the possibility of it coming to Lambton Heritage Museum if there isn't the ability to keep it restored in the park."
The cabin, which was built in the 1830's in Goderich and moved to Sarnia about a century later, is scheduled to be rebuilt with new logs in Canatara Park.
Sarnia council is being asked to approve an agreement with the Seaway Kiwanis Club to replicate the cabin on Monday.
