Sting's slump continues following loss in Kitchener

The Kitchener Rangers scored five goals in the first period en route to a 7-4 win over the visiting Sarnia Sting.

Jonathon Yantsis opened the scoring for the Rangers at the 4:07 mark followed 23 seconds later by a goal from Serron Noel.

Ryan McGregor (18) scored for the Sting eleven minutes into the period.

Then Kitchener scored three times in less than a minute on goals from Reid Valade, Donovan Sebrango and Holden Wale.

Valade scored again for the Rangers at 7:32 of the second period.

Ryan Roth (18) tallied for Sarnia with two minutes left in the period.

Two minutes into the final period Mike Petizian scored for the Rangers followed by a goal from the Sting's Eric Hjorth (10) near the midway mark of the period.

Roth (19), with his second of the game, scored for Sarnia with six minutes remaining in the game.

Starting goalie Ethan Langevin allowed four goals on ten shots before being replaced by Benjamin Gaudreau who stopped 22 of 25 shots.

Jacob Ingham made 34 saves for Kitchener.

Roth said the Rangers are a good team.

"We knew they were going to be coming out hard and a couple of bounces didn't go our way and we found ourselves in a hole early."

The Rangers extended their winning streak to 13 games and are tied with Saginaw for top spot in the OHL's Western Conference.

The Sting have lost five straight and 14 of their last 15 games.

They host West Division rival Windsor Sunday at 4:05 p.m.

Roth said he hopes they play like they did in Friday's third period where they outscored Kitchener 2-1 and outshot them 12-8.

"We want to bring that next game and we feel like if we play the whole game like we played the third period here we're going to come out with a "W".

The pregame show starts at 3:35 p.m. on 103.9 FM - 1070 AM CHOK.
