Man accused of pulling knife on Sarnia police officers

A 40-year-old man wanted on outstanding warrants now faces several more charges after allegedly pulling a knife on Sarnia police officers early Friday morning.

Police say at around 3:45 a.m. in the area of Christina Street and London Road, they noticed a man hunched over at payphone, and that when they went to check on him, they realized there was a warrant for his arrest.

Police say when they approached the man, he became agitated, pulled out a steak knife and threatened to kill the officers.

Police then drew their side arms and repeatedly ordered the man to drop the knife -- the suspect finally complied, threw the knife to the ground and was arrested without further incident.

The accused, Harvey Dale George, faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts each of failing to comply with a release order, assault a peace officer with a weapon, failing to comply with a probation order, and uttering threats to cause dearth or bodily harm.

The accused was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.
