Tilray cuts workforce, affirms commitment to High Park Farms

Tilray has confirmed its commitment to a $30-million dollar medical marijuana facility in Enniskillen Township despite cutting its workforce earlier this week.

In an email to Blackburn News Sarnia, Senior Manager of Communications, Chrissy Roebuck said "High Park Farms remains an important part of our global footprint."

High Park Farms is a subsidiary of Tilray Inc. which announced Wednesday it was laying off 10 per cent of its workforce to cut costs.

In a statement, Tilray CEO Brendan Kennedy said the layoffs would help better position the company to achieve profitability, meet the needs of the industry and foster growth in 2020 and beyond.

"The tough decision to eliminate roles has not been taken lightly," said Kennedy. "We’re extremely grateful to our past and current employees for their contributions.”

Tilray would not provide a breakdown of how many staff were reduced per site.

The Lasalle Line facility opened in May 2018.

The 100-acre property — includes 13 acres of greenhouse space — is heavily regulated by Health Canada and secured by an 8 ft fence, hundreds of cameras and intrusion detection.
