Members of Sarnia-Lambton's aging community, looking to spend their retirement by the beach, may soon have a new housing option.
Lambton Shores staff are recommending town council approve a site plan agreement for a four-storey retirement home in Grand Bend, which will be brought before council during Tuesday's regular meeting.
Lambton Shores Mayor Bill Weber said he's pleased the motion is coming forward.
"The retirement home is something that's been talked about for a while. People who move to the area and have their home and then fall in love with the area and want to stay here, but when it comes time that they need assisted living, they move to the city or some other place, so having this facility here will be a great addition to our community," he said. "The rezoning was done on this property back in July and the site plan control is there and staff have reviewed that and are recommending approval for this, so it's good news for the area."
Plans for the retirement home, submitted by Nelson Desjardine and Huron Shores Investments Inc, would see approximately 127 units built on an 8,900 square-foot gross floor area located over a series of adjoining parcels between 77 and 91 Ontario St. South in Grand Bend.
Weber said this development would be another sign of the continued growth across the community.
"There's many new homes and businesses starting in the Town of Forest as well and everything in between. Thedford's got a new development at the golf course that's going forward, so all of those developments make it a great community."
