If you drive by the former Holmes Foundry site in Point Edward, you'll notice the property is starting to look a little bare.
Crews have been working to clear the 16-acre site at 200 Exmouth Street.
Village CAO Jim Burns said all the necessary permits were obtained.
"A lot of work was done at the end of last week with the removal of the trees," said Burns. "They've cut a large number of the trees down, you can almost see clear across the property. You can actually see the buildings quite a bit clearer now and we expect within the next few days demolition of the buildings will start as well."
Cleanup and monitoring are expected to cost around $250,000 with Schouten Excavating doing the work.
Point Edward Gateway Inc. took possession of the property late in 2017, after 17 years of costly legal wrangling, and listed the site for sale for $7 million.
The future use for the site hasn't been determined, but it's zoned commercial.
