Sarnia council will consider a parking strategy for 2 Ferry Dock Hill Monday.
Staff have recommended two options; offer free parking or install a pay-and-display machine to operate weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Mayor Mike Bradley said it's a prime location on the waterfront.
"Personally, as a longtime advocate for the public's waterfront, I believe that it should be open to the public to use with some conditions, two or four hours just like we have at the Bayshore Parking lot where the MacPherson sculpture is," said Bradley. "It allows the public access throughout the day and the evenings to walk, to bring their dogs, their kids, whatever they want to do and not charge them."
George Murray Shipley Bell LLP has relocated to 215 Christina Street North, after operating on the Ferry Dock site for 60 years.
The building, dating back to 1910, will be demolished before the end of March due to high water levels.
City engineers said the building was at risk of partially collapsing into the St. Clair River.
