Lambton OPP investigating Kettle Point homicide

The discovery of human remains at Kettle and Stony Point First Nation Sunday is being investigated as a homicide by provincial police.

Cst. Jamie Stanley said a body was discovered at around 1:15 p.m. on August 2 when Lambton OPP officers, the West Region Emergency Response Team and OPP canine unit were assisting Anishinabek police with a search.

"Based on the remains, OPP called in the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit," said Stanley. "They attended the scene and a post mortem examination [Monday] took place and the results of that post mortem examination confirmed that the deceased died as a result of a homicide."

Stanley would not confirm if the investigation is linked to the search for a missing man over the weekend.

"We're certainly investigating that possibility," he said. "Members are still trying to confirm the identity. That work is taking place right now as we speak. So, we can't make any sort of linkage at this given time, we can't make any sort of confirmation on that."

BlackburnNews.com published a missing person alert from Anishinabek Police over the weekend for David Oliver, 29. A brief update Sunday night said only that the individual had been located.

Stanley said the investigation is ongoing and further updates will be provided as they become available.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to call Lambton OPP or Crime Stoppers.
