Lambton College research department receives $110K equipment donation

Lambton College's research and innovation department has received an equipment donation worth more than $110,000.

Donated on behalf of Wajax Industrial Components, the contribution includes new and unused Honeywell transmitters, controllers and recorders.

The equipment will help the college continue to offer training on state-of-practice equipment and will bolster research initiatives to further assist local and regional partners with their applied research needs.

Vice President, Research & Innovation Mehdi Sheikhzadeh said the donation benefits education and research at the college.

“The generosity Wajax has shown our college will allow us to work with our partners on collaborative applied research projects over and above our current capacity while giving our students invaluable experiential learning opportunities that will help prepare them for industry 4.0.”

The college said the equipment will primarily benefit students enrolled in Lambton’s Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technology program, enabling them to be trained on industry-standard instruments, sensors and control systems. It will also be of benefit to students enrolled in the Environmental Technician – Water & Wastewater Systems Operations and Chemical Production & Engineering Technology programs.

Dean of Technology & Trades, Dave Machacek, said the industry experience provided by the equipment will help Lambton College continue to produce highly-skilled graduates.

“The hands-on learning made possible by donations like this one go a long way towards preparing our students to succeed in our region of innovation,” said Machacek. “Student and community success is at the heart of Lambton College, and we thank Wajax Industrial Components for contributing to both.”

The college's research & innovation department is currently ranked third in Canada and was recently named the Silver recipient of the Applied Research and Innovation Excellence Award on behalf of Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan). Lambton College’s Research & Innovation department has won six awards from CICan in the last five years.

According to its website, Wajax operates more than 100 branches across Canada and represents a wide range of leading worldwide manufacturers.
