Heavy rain and storms result in flood watch

The Clair Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch.

A low pressure system tracking though Ontario is bringing the risk of thunderstorms throughout the day, with up to 45 millimetres of rain possible.

The authority said the high amount of rainfall has the potential to elevate water levels into natural floodplain areas including parks, farms and may even flood roads.

Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and swift moving water.

The conservation authority said north-northwest winds gusting up to 50 kilometres an hour over Lake Huron in the Ipperwash area are expected, before subsiding Sunday evening. Residents along the shoreline may experience increased wave action.

The flood watch is expected to remain in effect until Wednesday.
