Lambton College has again been recognized for its strength in research and innovation.
The school has been named the top research college in Ontario and is ranked number two in the country according to Research Infosource Inc.
Vice President of Research and Innovation at Lambton College Mehdi Sheikhzadeh told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM) Wednesday morning that throughout the pandemic, Lambton College has been conducting research through several collaborative projects focused on the fight against COVID-19.
"Developing PPE's for the community including hand sanitizer and face shields for Bluewater Health," said Sheikhzadeh. "We also started a few complex projects including a vaccine project we have in collaboration with a company out of Toronto and also with Suncor and Western University, we do have a project around more antibody testing."
Sheikhzadeh said innovation is one of the highest core priority values at Lambton College.
"You have to put into context that we are a smaller size college with a smaller town so our access to resources compared to many big colleges in bigger cities is limited," he said. "There is a model that is working here that can be used for others, but the ultimate goal is supporting industry and our partners in their journey of developing innovative technologies and processes for Canada."
Earlier this year, Lambton College was also named the Silver recipient of the Applied Research and Innovation Excellence Award on behalf of Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan).
Lambton College has been in the top three national rankings over the last five years, and in 2018 was ranked the number one research college in the country.
