Sarnia-Lambton COVID cases up 20, two more outbreaks

The recent surge in Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 case count continued Saturday with another spike of 20 new cases.

Lambton Public Health reported the confirmed caseload since March 25 is now at 497, up from 477 Friday. Recoveries increased by nine at 420, which leaves the number of active cases at 49, an increase of 10. Since Monday there have been 50 new cases reported.

The death toll on the health unit website Saturday was up one at 28. On Saturday, Bluewater Health reported just one positive patient in hospital but also another death for a total of 19 at the facility. Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said a man from outside Lambton county passed away. She reported Friday that a 79-year-old woman, in hospital since the second week of December, had died.

The number of workplace outbreaks was up two Saturday, at five, including a second workplace outbreak at NOVA Chemicals Corunna site. The other outbreak at an unnamed workplace also involved two positive cases of the virus.

The Lambton Kent District School Board reported late Friday afternoon that there is one student case at both Great Lakes Secondary School and P.E. McGibbon Public School. There was still one case involving a student at St. Patrick's High School in the St. Clair Catholic District School Board. Schools are now closed for the holidays.

Sarnia-Lambton remains at the yellow-protect level in the province's response framework.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
