Sarnia-Lambton COVID cases increase 64 over Christmas, Boxing Day

After not releasing COVID-19 updates on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, Lambton Public Health (LPH) reported a rise of 64 new confirmed cases of the virus Sunday bringing the total to 641 since March 25.

There are 35 more recoveries for a total of 486, deaths remained unchanged at 28, putting the number of active cases at 127, an increase of 29 since Thursday.

The local health unit is also reporting eleven outbreaks, up from seven.

The health unit's Darren Rogers said three of the new outbreaks are at workplaces and the other is at Great Lakes Secondary School.

Lambton Public Health received five laboratory-confirmed positive test results for COVID-19 linked to the first workplace, two linked to the second and the third workplaces and two linked to the school. In a news release Sunday it said the individuals who tested positive have been notified of their results and LPH is continuing to conduct case and contact management as part of the investigations. The health unit will only name affected workplaces if public notification will help to identify additional close contacts that can't be determined through contact tracing.

On its website Sunday morning Bluewater Health reported three patients in hospital with the virus, unchanged since Thursday, while the number of patient deaths remains at 19.
