The Salvation Army now has a new community response vehicle (CRV) to deliver hot meals to those in need across Sarnia-Lambton.
It's geared to people who wouldn't typically enter a shelter or seek out assistance.
Lieutenant Brad Webster said the food will be made at the Salvation Army kitchen with the truck capable of transporting 40 pans.
He said the COVID pandemic has really increased the need.
"We have already made contact with those folks who are out there," said Webster. "This is just an opportunity to get out there and meet them. We have some volunteers trained at our facility already. The Army has been doing this now for over 100 years with the emergency disaster services work, so this is nothing new to us."
Webster said the Salvation Army van will accompany the CRV, offering things like hygiene kits, free of charge.
Sarnia Evangelical Missionary Church is holding a drive-thru food drop-off in support of the Salvation Army's food bank April 24 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
