Seven fire departments across Lambton County are getting provincial funding to enhance fire safety training and inspections during the pandemic.
A total of $57,000 is being invested locally, including $22,200 in the City of Sarnia.
Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey made the announcement Tuesday.
"Our government is committed to supporting Ontario’s fire services and we thank them for their dedication to protecting our communities," said Bailey. "This new investment will enhance fire safety in Sarnia-Lambton by providing the technology and equipment needed to support training and fire inspections during these difficult times."
The money is part of a $5-million province-wide investment to help municipal fire services respond to the local impacts of COVID-19.
The government said the pandemic has created risks and unprecedented challenges for fire departments to conduct training and fire safety inspections.
The one-time funding will enhance in-person and online educational instruction needs by increasing access to additional training.
It will also support updates to specialized critical equipment, such as high-speed internet.
