Sarnia officials are growing increasingly concerned about ongoing vandalism at the forcemain project along the Howard Watson Nature Trail.
Signage and fencing has been put up for the project that will see the eventual extension of The Rapids Parkway from Sandpiper Drive to Exmouth Street, under Highway 402.
Project Manager Andrew Epp said they've noticed damage being done in the area, and if it keeps up the project will be delayed.
"Safety fencing that has been put up at the trail to identify the construction zone to keep the public separated from the workers, is being pushed down or being opened and passed through. That creates a dangerous situation for the public because we have this open excavation pit, as well as for our contracted staff."
Phase one of the project, which is currently underway, involves extension of the watermain, sanitary forcemain, and pumping station modifications.
The current section of trail is expected to be closed until mid-May, with the overall project wrapping up in about a year.
Residents are asked to be respectful of the safety measures so the project can continue as scheduled.
