UPDATE: Police investigate suspicious door to door salespeople

City police are easing concerns after reports were made of suspicious people going door-to-door, selling chocolates.

Over the last few days, the Sarnia Police Service received calls about two southeast Asian women selling chocolates for an unknown charity in the Philippines, or something along those lines. Police said Tuesday morning the women have been going door-to-door in the northeast end of the city, and have also been associated with a black SUV.

There have been unconfirmed theories circulating on social media, but police said there was no evidence or complaint that would indicate a crime had actually happened.

Sarnia police later said members of the Criminal Investigation Branch have determined that these individuals and other affiliates have been stopped by police in various cities and towns across the province and they were indeed selling chocolates for a charity.

"We truly appreciate everyone’s concern in this matter and thank the public for their assistance which allowed us to gather further information to investigate the matter," read a release from Sarnia police. "We just ask that when accessing information through social media, such as this, to please take the time to confirm the information."

Officers ask that residents instead contact police if they witness something of concern.
