Greyhounds fetch shutout win in Sarnia

The Sarnia Sting were shutout by the Soo Greyhounds 2-0 Sunday afternoon from the Hive.

Greyhounds forward Tye Kartye scored at 4:33 of the second period to give the road team a 1-0 lead.  Robert Calisti added an empty netter, on the penalty kill, with under 10 seconds to play in regulation to secure the win for the Soo.

Sting goaltender Ben Gaudreau turned away 32 of the 33 shots he faced and was named the game's first star.

"Benny played a fantastic game," said Sting Associate Coach Brad Staubitz.  "He's a horse back there for us, and some of those saves were just -- the athleticism you see in him, the type of player he is, it's just incredible, and that feeds energy into our guys."

Gaudreau was coming off a 4-3 win in Flint Saturday, and was recently named the OHL Goaltender of the Week.

"When he's playing like that, that tilts the ice in our favour and the guys feel that from him and the competitiveness in him," said Staubitz.  "So it brings a lot to our team, even in games that don't go our way, it's something positive you're taking from it."

Soo goaltender Samuel Ivanov turned away 20 shots in the game -- Sting forward Nolan DeGurse led Sarnia in shots with four.

Staubitz said said the Soo are a fast team that executes at a high rate.

"There's one thing to be skating a fast game, but it's another to be processing a fast game, and I think we need to get used to playing at those high-tempo games and a faster game mentally."

The loss drops Sarnia to 8-8-3 on the season.  The Sting are back in action Friday night when the club hosts Windsor.
