Sarnia reaches record high temperature

Sarnia broke a temperature record Thursday.

The official temperature reading at Chris Hadfield Airport reached 16 Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) at 2 p.m. breaking the previous record high of 14.3 C set in 1984.

The spring-like conditions aren't expected to last long, Environment Canada Meteorologist Peter Kimbell said cold air was expected to flood in behind the warm front moving through the region Thursday evening.

"A low of minus two is expected tonight, so it will be back to normal weather tomorrow, but even still (temperatures will be) above average," said Kimbell.

A high of 3 C ( 37 F) is forecasted Friday, with periods of snow and temperatures around the freezing mark expected Saturday.

The Colorado Low moving through Ontario Thursday also brought strong wind gusts. At 8 a.m. a gust of 74 kilometers per hour was recorded at Chris Hadfield Airport.
