Unwanted guest charged following break and enter

What should be a joyous time of year is also a busy time for Sarnia police as it's the "season for break and enters".

Over the weekend, officers were called to an active break-in on Murphy Road and possibly prevented another on London Line.

Officers were called to a residence on Murphy Road on December 17 after a homeowner found an intruder in his home.

A 26-year-old woman left the area but was found shortly after by police. Police said she was out on several release orders.

In regards to Friday's incident, she was charged with mischief under $5,000, break and enter to a dwelling, possession of break in instruments, and failure to comply with undertaking. She was released from police custody with a future court date.

The next day, an officer on patrol stopped a 31-year-old Sarnia man on London Line. He was wanted for allegedly failing to appear in court.

Police said he tried to evade officers by hiding behind a business. During the arrest, Sarnia police seized break-in instruments.

As a result, the 31-year-old was charged with failure to comply with a release order, failure to comply with a probation order, possession of break in instruments and possession of a schedule 1 substance. The accused has a future court date scheduled for January 12, 2022.

Over the weekend, Sarnia police responded to a total of 233 calls for service. Of the calls received, five were in regards to thefts, five were for domestic and family disputes, five collisions were reported, and over a dozen 911 hang-up calls were made. Officers also conducted 20 welfare checks.
