The Wyoming Community Foundation is expanding its efforts in supporting local groups, to help students through a new scholarship opportunity.
Members recently approved a list of funding recipients during its year-end meeting.
Foundation Chair Pat Davidson said members also approved two $1,000 scholarships, one for an upcoming graduate at Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute (LCCVI) and another for a first-year Lambton College student.
Davidson said the scholarship criteria will be laid out by the schools but recipients must be Wyoming residents, with good academic standing, and active in volunteerism.
Scholarship recipients will be announced in 2022, however, Davidson was unsure of specific dates at this time.
One of the biggest funding commitments made this year by the foundation was to support the new Plympton-Wyoming Health & Wellness Centre. A full list of funding recipients can be found below.
"We're just doing what we can to support every group that applies [for funding]," said Davidson.
Funding applications are typically reviewed in late November and December and Davidson said this year, the foundation was able to grant funds to every group that applied.
"Usually we have way too many requests for the money that we have and we have to prorate things but this year we were really fortunate and everybody got what they were asking for," she said.
Since the foundation was formed in 2003, Davidson said over $500,000 has been donated to Wyoming organizations.
"We're really pleased to be able to support the groups that we do," she said. "They're all very good organizations, they do wonderful things for the people in Wyoming."
This year's approved funding recipients include:
- $5,000 to the Town of Plympton-Wyoming - towards the total $25,000 pledged as a donation to the new Plympton-Wyoming Health & Wellness Centre
- $10,000 to the Wyoming Lions Club in support of their pledge as well to the Plympton-Wyoming Health & Wellness Centre
- $10,000 to the Wyoming Legion, Branch 388, toward costs to be incurred for installation of a new asphalt laneway entrance
- $ 2,000 to Wyoming Minor Ball for equipment upgrades
- $ 3,500 to the Plympton-Wyoming Agricultural Society for kitchen equipment upgrades
