A Lambton OPP officer has been released from hospital after coming into contact with suspected fentanyl during the search of a stolen vehicle.
At around 10 p.m. Monday, officers in Thedford spotted a vehicle with a stolen licence plate travelling on Second Street. A traffic stop was conducted and police took the male driver into custody without incident.
During a search of the vehicle, which was also discovered to be stolen, police located a second set of missing plates, a replica firearm and suspected fentanyl. One of the officers began to experience symptoms after contacting the drug and was taken to hospital by Lambton EMS.
The suspect, 26-year-old Anthony Riley of North Middlesex, faces a total of 10 charges:
- Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, under $5,000
- Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, over $5,000
- Operation while prohibited
- Possession of Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Three counts of failure to comply with release order
- Possession of break-in instruments
The accused was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
