Spits extend Sting's losing streak to five

The Sarnia Sting lost their fifth straight game Thursday night, 5-1 in Windsor.

Sarnia forward Nolan Burke scored his team-leading 32nd goal of the season in the loss and goaltender Ben Gaudreau made 24 saves.

The Spitfires opened the scoring at 3:08 of the first period, the first of two power play goals for Matthew Maggio. Windsor led 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Windsor's Wyatt Johnston scored a short-handed goal at 5:36 of the second, his 42nd goal of the season -- the Toronto native leads the OHL in scoring with 115 points in 61 games. Maggio made it 3-0 at 14:55 before Burke got Sarnia on the board at 16:03. The Spits took a two-goal lead into the third period.

Windsor went back up by three at 9:06, Will Cuylle's 39th of the season. Michael Renwick made it 5-1 Windsor just a few minutes later and the Spits went on to win their eighth straight game to increase their lead atop the OHL's Western Conference.

The Sting remain in eighth spot in the West, three points ahead of the Erie Otters for the final playoff spot with eight games remaining.

Sarnia heads to Saginaw Friday night -- coverage on CHOK (1070 AM/103.9 FM) begins at 6:30 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
