Olympian visits Sarnia for One Book Lambton

Retired hurdler, world champion, Olympian, and author Perdita Felicien will be in Sarnia this week to discuss her first book.

My Mother's Daughter was selected as the 2021-2022 feature book for One Book Lambton. The initiative, held in partnership with Lambton County Library and The Book Keeper, will culminate with a conversation with Felicien at the Sarnia Library Theatre on Friday, April 22.

Since October 22, 2021, Felicien's book has been loaned 307 times at local libraries (including physical and eLibrary platforms) and The Book Keeper sold 130 copies.

Cultural Services' Community Engagement and Communications Supervisor Emily Bisson said during the event, Felicien will discuss the themes of the book and why she wrote it. There will also be a question and answer period with the audience and a book signing opportunity.

Bisson said attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of their book but The Book Keeper will also be there with copies. The event is free but attendees must register online in advance.

Although One Book Lambton launched in 2019-2020, due to the pandemic, this will be the first in-person Author Talk to take place in the community.

"We're so excited to be able to host [Felicien] here, have her interact with the community that's been reading her book for the last six months, and grow this initiative even more," said Bisson.

An Evening with Perdita Felicien will take place from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
