Alvinston woman to run for NDP in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex

A community advocate from Alvinston will run for the NDP party in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex in June.

Vanessa Benoit was acclaimed as the candidate for the upcoming provincial election Thursday night.

Benoit, a library worker, singer-songwriter and music editor has served on the planning committee of the Alvinston Arts and Music Fest and the Friends of A.W. Campbell Park.

In a news release, she said she is passionate about making sure we invest in the services that rural families rely on.

"I'm excited to work hard on behalf of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex families and fix the things that matter most to them," said Benoit. "That means creating a long-term and home care system that puts care before profits and investing in smaller class sizes and repairing our aging public schools."

Benoit will be running against Conservative incumbent and Ontario Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development Monte McNaughton.

Wanda Dickey is representing the Green Party, and David Barnwell is listed as the candidate for the New Blue Party of Ontario. The Liberals have not yet named a candidate in the riding.
