Company pleased with progress of Sarnia retirement community thus far

Despite some challenges, Seasons Retirement Communities is still expecting to welcome residents to its Sarnia location in 2026.

The Oakville-based company began its construction phase of the project following the demolition of the former Bayside Mall in March.

Seasons Retirement Communities CEO Michael Lavallee said in an emailed statement to Sarnia News Today that the construction phase is expected to last about 24 months.

"Yet, like many, the pandemic and supply chain pressures have the potential to impact this timeline," said Lavallee.

Challenges related to COVID-19 and supply chain issues also delayed construction of the Lambton County Shared Services site, which is also located at the former mall location in downtown Sarnia. Construction of the Shared Services site is now expected to be completed in late July.

"Unlike most development projects, this one includes the added complexity of an underground parking structure that is in use and will be in use throughout the entirety of the construction phase," said Lavallee. "Therefore, for the safety and security of the building, each phase of the project must be carefully evaluated and planned."

Once the site is completed, it will include 160 fully independent apartments and 144 retirement home suites, which will be complemented by 17 townhomes.

"Seasons is pleased with the progress of our phase one retirement community," said Lavallee.

Seasons Retirement Communities has several locations scattered across Ontario and Alberta.
