Hot and humid weather prompts heat warning

Lambton Public Health has issued a heat warning for Sarnia-Lambton.

Environment Canada says daytime temperatures will reach the low 30s Monday and again Tuesday with humidex values near 36C, 97F.

Overnight lows will hover around 20C, 68F providing little relief from the heat.

Residents are being reminded to drink plenty of water and seek cool places such as tree-shaded areas, swimming pools, or air-conditioned buildings.

We're also being urged to watch for the effects of heat illness including swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

"Heat-related illnesses are a high risk for elderly, children and those with chronic illnesses," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade. "Any individual can be impacted, though, especially if they participate in strenuous activity and do not take steps to combat the heat."

Those working outdoors should take regularly scheduled breaks, and people or pets should never be left inside a parked vehicle.

Cooler and less humid air is expected to arrive on Wednesday.
