An Oil Springs native is the fourth woman in NHL history to be named an assistant general manager.
Meghan Hunter has been promoted to the position within the Chicago Blackhawks organization. It was one of several front office moves the hockey club made on Wednesday.
Hunter, 41, has been with the Blackhawks since 2016. In a media release, the team said Hunter will oversee budgeting, team services, contract execution, team security and player services. She will report directly to General Manager Kyle Davidson.
Hunter began her hockey career with Petrolia Minor Hockey and was a student at LCCVI before moving onto the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
She spent some time working with different universities as part of the coaching staff before becoming the director of group sales for the London Knights in 2008. She later spent time with Hockey Canada before moving to Chicago where she became the second female amateur scout in NHL history, read a media release.
Hunter has recently been recognized by different media outlets, including being named to Sportsnet’s list of 25 Most Powerful Women in Hockey in 2021. She was also named one of 20 women with credentials to hold a future NHL GM role by Hockey News.
In April, Hunter became the first female inductee into Petrolia’s Wall of Fame at the Greenwood Recreation Centre.
