MADD dedication to remember lives lost

MADD Sarnia-Lambton is holding its annual White Cross dedication on Saturday, to deliver a sobering message about the dangers of impaired driving.

Volunteers will be setting up 270 white crosses along the St. Clair Parkway at the north end of Aamjiwnaang First Nation.

In a news release, the organization said the crosses are meant to serve as a reminder that impaired driving continues to be a serious problem on local roads, endangering lives and causing untold damage and emotional pain.

According to the Sarnia Police Service, 69 impaired driving charges were laid in the first 10 months of 2022 and Lambton OPP reported 145 impaired driving incidents.

MADD Sarnia-Lambton chooses a different location each year for the white crosses display in advance of the holiday season.

Volunteers will begin setting up the crosses across from Suncor at around 10:30 a.m., with a dedication ceremony to follow at 11 a.m.
