Sarnia Sting forward Nolan Burke scored the shootout winner, and added to his league-lead in goals, in the Sting's 3-2 victory in Guelph Sunday afternoon.
Burke scored his 15th goal of the season, Ty Voit recorded his OHL-leading 32nd point of the year, and Sting goaltender Ben Gaudreau turned away 26 shots for his seventh win.
Sarnia's Ethan Wainwright opened the scoring at 5:56 of the first period, his third goal of the campaign. Storm forward Cooper Walker responded at 10:38, and the game was tied at ones after 20 minutes.
Guelph took their first lead of the game on a goal from Matthew Poitras with just 31 seconds left in the second period. The Storm outshot Sarnia 12 to six in the middle frame after being outshot 11 to six in the first.
Just over five minutes into the third period, Guelph received a high sticking penalty. At 6:23, Burke tipped in a hard pass from Marko Sikic for his eighth power play goal of the season, also a league high.
After a scoreless overtime period, the two teams went to the shootout. Burke scored in the second round and Gaudreau turned away the final Storm shooter to secure the 3-2 shootout win.
The Sting finished the week with a record of 1-1-1-0 are now 9-6-2-1 on the season. The hockey club is back in action Friday night when they host Windsor. Coverage on CHOK (1070 AM/103.9 FM) begins at 6:30 p.m.
