Staff at Brooke Central Public School will be moving their classroom materials to new locations over the next few days, in preparation for students to relocate next week.
Following a meeting with the school community this week, the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) has opted to relocate students to three separate facilities. A letter was posted on the school board's website Wednesday morning.
English program students in Grades 6 through 8 will move to classrooms in the addition of Brooke Central Public School, adjacent to Brooke Alvinston Childcare Centre. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 will transition to Lambton Centennial Public School.
Meanwhile, French immersion students in Grades 7 and 8 will move to the classrooms in the addition of Brooke Central Public School. Kindergarten to Grade 6 French immersion students will transition to East Lambton Elementary School.
"The students right now are in remote learning while the teachers are packing up all of the materials that need to move from the classroom that they currently occupy," said LKDSB Director of Education John Howitt. "We genuinely have to relocate as we're going into spaces in the receiving schools that don't have any furniture and were previously closed spaces."
At this time, there's no time frame as to how long the relocation will last.
"We're very conscious that this job is going to require structural steel, which has been a bit of an issue in the supply chain," Howitt said. "We're hoping that we're able to source the steel necessary. We do have a contractor already who's in the process of scoping out the job."
Howitt said the lines of communication will remain open during this process. He also said he was pleased with the input received by the school community this week which led to plan adjustments.
The bus routes are still being worked out and parents/ guardians will soon receive contact information for their child's appropriate school location.
Tours have been arranged to take place at Lambton Centennial Public School on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, November 29 from 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. for the Kindergarten to Grade 5 English program students.
Tours have also been arranged at East Lambton Elementary School for Kindergarten to Grade 6 French Immersion students on Monday from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m.
