Newcomers to the area will be able to connect to services and community programs a little easier.
The Sarnia-Lambton Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) has launched the Welcome to Lambton mobile app.
Project Coordinator Stephanie Ferrera said it's a helpful guide for new residents, offering assistance in finding a home, child care, a job and even favourite foods.
"This tool is a one-stop shop," said Ferrera. "It's heavily linked throughout and the advantages of having an app over a website is that it's interactive, but as well it can be used not only by newcomers and immigrants in the community to help orient, but can also be used by services providers who are providing services to those newcomers."
Ferrera said the project has been in the making for a couple of years and falls under one of the partnership's four pillars of focus--coordination of services.
"With this app, what's great about it is that it serves as a virtual connector, it serves as that coordination piece all on its own," said Ferrera. "So, not that we would stop any activities under the coordination of services, but because we have this now, it serves as the sort of virtual tool of that one pillar in our strategy."
An official launch of the app, available through the App Store and Google Play was held Thursday morning.
The app, funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, is available in eight different languages--English, Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese, Arabic , French, Spanish and Hindi.
