UPDATE: Sarnia lifts burn ban

After some much-needed rain and improved air quality, a burn ban in Sarnia has officially been lifted.

Sarnia Fire Rescue Services issued a burn ban last week due to poor air quality caused by wildfires in northeastern Ontario and Quebec.

"Sarnia Fire Chief Bryan Van Gaver has lifted the ban on open-air burning in the city," read a media release issued on Monday. "Van Gaver would like to thank all Sarnia residents for their assistance in reducing the impact of smoke on air quality."

Lambton Shores also issued restrictions last week, temporarily suspending the issuance of all open-air burn permits across the municipality.

The Village of Point Edward lifted its temporary ban on all open-air burning on Tuesday, June 13.
