Summer quilt show starts in Grand Bend

A colourful array of quilts will be displayed at Lambton Heritage Museum this summer.

The bi-annual North Lambton Quilters' Guild Show kicks off Thursday, June 29 and runs until September 2 at the Grand Bend site.

Curator/Supervisor Dana Thorne said the guild was established in 1989 and has been exhibiting its work at the museum for more than 15 years.

"The 2023 show will include dozens of beautiful quilts alongside other handmade items like clothing, wall hangings, table toppers, and quilted accessories," said Thorne. " A selection of historic quilts from the museum’s collection will be displayed alongside the guild’s creations, highlighting old and new techniques."

Thorne said their last show in 2021 was much smaller due to public health requirements.

"The formatting this year will be reminiscent of years pre-pandemic, with dozens of quilts and other items on display,” she said. “Some of the guild members used the pandemic as an opportunity to finish larger projects and we can’t wait for our visitors to see what they’ve created.”

The exhibit kicks off with special events running from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the opening weekend, June 29, 30, and July 1.

Visitors can meet members of the guild, view quilting demonstrations, browse vendors selling quilting supplies and books, and shop in the guild’s quilting rummage sale.
