Rayjon hosts first Caribefest Sarnia

Caribbean history and culture will be on full display through music, food, and entertainment at Lambton College during the first CaribeFest Sarnia event, organized by Rayjon Share Care.

The free immersive cultural event is being held on Friday, September 15 at the school's Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex from 1:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Dance and drumming performers will be on-site for the expo-style event.

Booths will be set up for attendees to purchase items from artisan vendors and participate in educational hands-on activities.

Rayjon Executive Director Heather Smith said they're excited to showcase Caribbean culture.

"But as well, this is our community too. We have a very large Caribbean population right here in Sarnia-Lambton that not everybody knows is there or might not know very much about the culture," Smith said.

Director of Rayjon Share Care Haiti Renaud Thomas will be the event's guest speaker. As stated on the event's webpage, Thomas is an advocate for gender equality and will bring a unique perspective on current events in Haiti.

Thomas is scheduled to speak at 2:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.

The full event schedule can be found on Rayjon's website.

The grassroots organization supports communities in Haiti and the Dominican Republic to reach goals for sustainable development and eliminate inequalities.
